Social-Emotional Learning Programs
At Inside Out Learners, we use a culmination of curricula, knowledge, and creativity to develop or enhance social competencies in a small group setting. Lessons include fun activities using high-quality curricula and materials from Social Thinking®, Zones of Regulation®, PEERS® and so much more. The following social competencies are just a few we target in our instruction:

Group dynamics, age ranges, and individual needs are an integral part of planning group sessions. Inside Out Learners currently provides groups and individual programming for ages 6-35. Weekday, weeknight, and Saturday social-emotional learning sessions are currently available. We provide small group instruction and sessions run for 55 minutes per week. A social competencies assessment must be administered before joining a group. Schedule a tour at: 757-436-2722 or by completing our contact form here.
Why Is Social-Emotional Learning So Important?
Relationships are unavoidable in this human existence and understanding them is essential to our social connections. Whether it is a healthy friendship or not, our learners are taught how to tell the difference.
What exactly, makes a friend, a friend? Are my "friends" or "followers" in that app really my friends? How about the "friend" in lunch who asks me for money every day because he "forgot" his?
Flexible Thinking is paramount for understanding the perspectives of others which helps our clients learn that compromise and problem-solving are critical skills to have in order to maintain friendships and a stable employment status.
I don't need friends because life is easier when I'm alone. No, I will NOT try this just one time- it will be horrible no matter what!
Conversation Etiquette serves as the heartbeat of everything we teach. Through games and role play, we help our clients learn how important appearance and physical presence is when facilitating a conversation that makes others come back for more.
I don't care if she's listening or not, I want to tell her about the string theory! Watch me do the floss!
I got scared when I heard him say that it's raining cats and dogs!
Inferencing helps us understand the context of what we see and visualize what we are reading. This is an essential component of instruction for all of our social-emotional learning activities, as one cannot interpret a "room temperature" without first, "surveying the scene".
Why did my brother yell at me when all I did was ask him to help me set up my new PS5 game? He later told me that he was in the middle of breaking up with his girlfriend. So what? I really needed his help!
Emotional Regulation is at the root of many social and academic struggles for children and teens. Our goal is to help our clients learn how to identify and appropriately respond to sources of strong emotions, with practical strategies that work for the individual.
I don't know why I get mad all of the time. I just know I always get in trouble.
